Cari amici e colleghi,
la fusione dell=92esperienza della nanotecnologia con le
tecniche di biologia
molecolare ha recentemente permesso di miniaturizzare
l=92ibridazione di acidi
nucleici su micromatrici (microarray). Le applicazioni
dei microarray sono
molteplici, quali ad esempio lo studio di espressione
genica, l=92
identificazione di alterazioni a livello del DNA
(mutazioni puntiformi,
polimorfismi), il sequenziamento di geni.

Uno degli aspetti caratterizzanti la tecnica dei
microarrays e=92 la
disponibilita=92 di una incredibile quantita=92 di dati e
questo ha creato un
problema di gestione e di interpretazione
dell=92informazione. Le tecniche
tradizionali di analisi statistica di matrici di dati
si sono rivelate
insufficienti ed in tutto il mondo e=92 in corso una
febbrile ricerca di nuovi
metodi, in grado di modellare al meglio i dati
prodotti da questi
esperimenti. In parallelo, la necessita=92 di migliorare
la qualita=92 dei dati
ed ottimizzare l=92accesso ai database ha dato una
spinta notevole al settore
della bioinformatica.

Nel nostro paese dopo un impasse iniziale si sta
osservando un fiorire di
gruppi di ricerca che finalmente dotati della
strumentazione necessaria
stanno iniziando a produrre dati con questa nuova
tecnica. Molti punti sono
aperti, fra questi la validazione del metodo e=92 il
primo  in ordine di
tempo, ma i gruppi che hanno gia=92 prodotto risultati
si trovano ad
affrontare la complessita=92 di una analisi statistica
dei dati che richiede
metodiche sofisticate ed un know-how non facilmente
rintracciabile.

Allo scopo di offrire ai gruppi italiani che sono
impegnati nell=92
